Over the hill demo: access, playtests and old saves
Open the official Steam listing and look for a current demo or playtest option. If none is offered, the old Next Fest announcement is not a download route: choose the full game if you want to play now.
Quick guide
June Next Fest demo and later playtests are earlier builds.
- Use the current Steam listing, not a third-party “demo download”.
- A demo button gives demo access; a playtest request is not guaranteed entry.
- Keep old demo saves until you can check what the full game actually recognises.
Choose the access option shown now
If Steam offers Download Demo, use that official button. If it offers Request Access for a playtest, read the test conditions and wait for access rather than expecting an immediate full-game copy. If neither is shown, an expired event article does not supply another official install route.
Before using a demo save
The developer FAQ said demo-save compatibility was planned but not guaranteed. Keep your original save and check the release build’s import behavior before deleting anything. Do not assume a manually copied file or an old tutorial proves current compatibility.
Start with the released version
Use the Steam product listing for current availability and the beginner guide for a first expedition. Treat old demo maps, unlocks and rewards as version-specific unless confirmed in the full game.
Sources & version notes
June demo announced through June 22, 2026. August developer update: ongoing free demo/server maintenance was not feasible before launch; limited playtests were separate.
The FAQ planned demo-save compatibility but did not guarantee it. A release-specific import menu or exact save-transfer path has not been verified; no manual overwrite procedure is supplied.
Release-era sources reviewed on October 15, 2026. Older FAQ plans are distinguished from current launch information; editorial advice is not a claim of hands-on testing.
